Sitr [Paravan]

Ranim Halaky

Lebanese designer Ranim Halaky presents Sitr [Paravan], a freestanding room divider that bridges memory, architecture, and poetics. Composed of four vertical panels, the piece forms a quiet threshold between interior and exterior, past and present, weaving together function and narrative in a tactile, living object.

Each panel combines woven palm fronds (Areesh) for the vertical warp with metal text fragments - poetry, storytelling, and remembered speech - forming a horizontal weft that reads like a page of memory. Drawing inspiration from her grandmother’s mashrabiya-style paravan in Damascus and Emirati Areesh structures, Sitr breathes with its environment, preserving stories across generations while creating a contemplative space where cultural and personal histories intersect.
