Bu Nyoom Console

Dana Binmahmood

Bahraini designer Dana Adnan Binmahmood is a UAE-based architect and furniture designer who reinterprets Gulf cultural heritage by using traditional crafts as structural and conceptual foundations for modern objects. Holding a background in Architecture and Fine Arts, her portfolio includes a concrete reinterpretation of traditional house-weaving for House of Artisans featured at Nomad Abu Dhabi and Dubai Design Week 2025, alongside work inspired by Burqaa making. She also serves as a specialized programs designer at Sharjah Youth.

Bu Nyoom is a console that translates the fading UAE craft of Burqaa making into functional contemporary furniture rather than preserving it purely as an artifact. Named after a gold-star-adorned Burqaa, the piece distills traditional golden ornamentation into solid brass accents, mirrors the tailored proportions of shail fabric through precisely cut drawers, and echoes the eye-opening geometry in its negative space. Built using local fabrication and traditional shail cloth from regional souqs, the console serves as an intimate everyday home entry piece that bridges past heritage with the present craft economy.
