Seamlessly overcoming the transition between indoors and outdoors, Serralunga have made a name as one of the world’s leading outdoor furniture brands and they are providing seating and tables for the terrace at Downtown Design.

Founded in the small Italian town of Biella in 1825, Serralunga has over five generations of experience in furniture design but continually manages to reinvent itself. The brand are renowned for pushing the boundaries of materials, technologies and aesthetics in order to create groundbreaking products such as The Holy All, a Philippe Starck designed clay pot sculpture, which has a hole in the centre that opens on the surface, like a porthole, to give fluidity to the entire item as well as allowing it to double up as a chair and the Zaha Hadid Flow vases. In 2011, they presented the Canisse, a sofa and armchair by the up and coming French designer Philippe Nigro. The chairs take inspiration from the irregular thickness of reeds that fold to form a seat and where four of the longer stems become the legs. Last year came plant pots by Eero Aarniolt and Naoto Fukasawa that used innovation as well as functionality, such facets continually give Serralunga the edge.

Suitable for luxury outdoor terraces as well as fitting within the confines of any indoor living environment, these products have cemented Serralunga’s name in the market. According to Gabriele Cosentino, the sales director, some of these masterpieces will be on display at Downtown Design in Dubai.

“Dubai is an interesting place for us to exhibit for many reasons,” he says. “There, the people are aware of beauty and also the weather and lifestyle matches the Serralunga concept of design.”

As well as providing the furniture for the outdoor terrace at Downtown Design, Serralunga will also be presenting their leading products. Calling the Middle Eastern market “special and interesting” Cosentino also says that Downtown Design will be a “unique” event by fusing Italian excellence with the passion for design in the region.

“It will be a special event supported by leading Italian brands, that are able to move the interest and the attention of the kind people living in the area and to make them really aware of the beauty and form, in which Italy is the master.”
