Classics of Danish Design, The Egg chair from Fritz Hansen and the Wishbone chair from Carl Hansen, will be assembled by artisanal craftsmen during a live installation in Downtown Design.

With the purpose of educating visitors about the intricate process involved in material selection and the detailed work that takes place in the factories in Denmark, Downtown Design and Ikonhouse have set up 'Craftsmanship at The Workshop' – a live installation for craftsmen to work.

Working on the upholstery and shell of the Egg chair as well as the weaving and woodwork of the wishbone chair, the craftsmen will show designers and other professionals in the trade just how much skill and attention to detail goes into creating these high quality items. Alongside their live show, the artisans will display a photo gallery and video channel to present extra information about the manufacturing process for these and other design items.

Iconic Danish lighting brand, Louis Poulsen will also be showing their products at Craftsmanship at The Workshop. Supporting the exhibits will be a series of talks in the held on each day of the fair focusing on innovation and manufacturing, the value of heritage and the use of materials.

Speaking about their participation at Downtown Design, Dorian Pauwels, Executive Director at Ikonhouse said, “Downtown Design is the only fair in Dubai (and GCC) that exclusively promotes ‘original design’; being products for interiors made with traditional craftsmanship, from the best available materials and built to last.”
