Each year, Downtown Design evolves the fair experience by inviting experts of the field to design the masterplan of the fair, situated on the d3 Waterfront, at Dubai Design District (d3).

For the 2019 edition of the fair, the Dubai studio of the global hospitality design practice, Wilson Associates, will develop a concept that will not only augment the aesthetic appeal of the fair, but also offer both exhibiting brands as well as trade and public visitors a multi-faceted experience.

“There is a synergy between what we do at Wilson Associates and what Downtown Design stands for,” says Isabel Pintado, Senior VP of Middle East and Africa & Managing Director, Dubai. “Through our work, we are trying to elevate the conversation around the impact of design; Downtown Design does the same by building a community around the design industry and bringing design professionals from around the Middle East together on one platform.”

Offering the regional industry an infrastructure that facilitates the business of design with ease and in addition to servicing projects in the UAE, Dubai caters to projects in territories such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, India and Africa both creatively and logistically. According to Isabel, it is the Emirate’s diversity and inclusiveness that offers a conducive environment for creative industries to thrive. This eclecticism will guide Wilson Associate’s creative direction for the public areas of the fair.

“Since the first presentation of Downtown Design in 2013, the region’s design industry has gradually moved towards celebrating our distinctiveness and away from replicating other established design scenes,” says Isabel. “There is a sense of curiosity – from the perspective of international brands looking to break into the region, and also from the region’s architects and interior designers looking for progressive, innovative solutions. We intend to design an atmosphere that builds on that sense of exploration and discovery that drives the Middle East’s design community.”
