Tabi Rack, an innovative shoe rack by Palestinian designer, Sara Bokr, integrates worn garments into its design.
Inspired by Japan's traditional tabi shoes and the deconstructive style of Maison Margiela, this cylindrical piece features an abstract silhouette of the tabi, supported by three legs and accented by a slit that mirrors the split-toe design. Curved doors reveal internal shelves, while the unfinished white paint gives it a punk-inspired, aged appearance.
An adjustable curtain made from chenille fuzzy cotton yarn allows users to clean and polish their tabi shoes. Over time, the curtain develops a unique patina, enhancing the rack's character.
With a rich history that spans from socks to footwear, the tabi shoe embodies the essence of Dadaism, challenging societal norms and class distinctions in fashion.
Similarly, the Tabi Rack disrupts traditional furniture design by reinterpreting established norms. The result is a striking piece that captures the rebellious spirit of the tabi, blending disruption with integration.
