This year’s Solaire Lounge at Downtown Design is inspired by a true-story, deep sea discovery.

In line with Downtown Design’s 2023 focus on bringing elements from the great outdoors to indoor, and the necessity of our natural surroundings, the main lounge of the fair will offer a concept unearthed from Veuve Clicquot’s ‘Cellar in the Sea’ project.

Following the recovery of 47 Veuve Clicquot bottles discovered within a 19th-century shipwreck in the Baltic Sea (Anno 1840, south of the Åland archipelago), intact and preserved after nearly 200 years due to low temperatures and absence of light at the bottom of the sea, discovered by local scuba divers in June 2010, the great discovery has been the inspiration for this year’s pop-up concept at the 10th edition of Downtown Design.

With an outdoor sun terrace on the d3 waterfront overlooking Dubai Creek and view to Burj Khalifa, inspired by the laid-back elegance of the coastal cities of Southern France and featuring a sandy ‘pétanque’ terrain for visitors to enjoy, this year’s Solaire Lounge at Downtown Design is designed in collaboration with C’est Ici Design, and operated by 1Life.

The indoor and outdoor spaces of the lounge is a juxtaposition of geometric profiles and bold proportions inspired by the facades of cliffside villages, softened with curves, warm lighting and natural materials. Bringing the sun to your plate, the lounge will feature a tailored menu of healthy, tasteful foodpairing specially created by 1Life, and a pop-up oyster bar on the terrace, serving fresh local oysters from Dibba Bay.

Visitors are encouraged to feel the captured essence of the seaside while enjoying a refreshing drink and foodpairing of quality produce, as a pause while perusing the fair’s dynamic line up of exhibiting brands & designers, pop-up features and talks programmes.
