Redefining Latvian design, this year’s Pavilion presents pieces that are minimalist yet functional, evocative of contemporary Nordic design.

Employing natural materials in neutral tones, the furniture is entirely hand-crafted; aesthetic but entirely practical. Gaining recognition internationally, Latvian design  is seeking to make an impact in the emirates with a distinct show for Downtown Design 2015.

Brands to discover are: An&Angel, Riga Chair, Flow Design, Mammalampa, Studio Natural and Ply Collection. Here's more on each:

An&Angel was founded in 2004 by designer Artis Nimanis. Their new “DECO” collection is a range of geometrically shaped bowls that plays with subtle earthy shades and mirroring to uniquely beautiful pieces.

Riga Chair established their first factory in 1999, and have since become one of the major seating-furniture producers in Latvia. On display at Downtown Design 2015 is the award-winning Riga Roo (pictured), a rocking toy kangaroo made from a single moulded part. The minimalistic, yet archetypal shape makes it the perfect playroom accessory for a design home. Roo is available in birch, beech, oak veneer or laminate in various colours.

Flow Design by Industrial Designer Georg Dwalischwili and Product Engineer Janis Karklins have created Cliq an object that resembles a standard hanger in size and proportion, but doesn't have the hook section that traditionally attaches the hanger to a rail. In its place sits a powerful magnet that can attach to any metal surface, be it flat or circular. The hanger holds up to two kilogram (4.4 lbs.) and can be used on any metallic tube or surface.

Mammalampa uses a variety of materials in unexpected ways, creating their own distinctive signature designs. The Bride lamp, a ‘dress’ created with paper, creates an aura of airy lightness; almost as if the lamp were not subject to the laws of gravity.

Studio Natural “Linen is a lifestyle” has been Studio Naturals’ motto since the early days of the company; echoing linen’s timeless, natural quality links the past with the present. It has withstood the test of time and never goes out of style. The brand will present linens for the home, tables, beds, curtains, blinds, towels, scarves and clothes.

Ply Collection combines the experience and capabilities of Latvia’s largest furniture manufacturers with modern design. The brand’s innovative development process has resulted in a collection of beautiful molded plywood chairs that fit anywhere- from homes and offices to public areas. Pictured above is the Python chair made from form pressed plywood with a chrome base.
