Trade and public visitors can order custom pieces at the fair’s section dedicated to limited-edition and bespoke design, Downtown Editions.

In 2018, Downtown Design introduced its new fair section, Downtown Editions. Presenting both established and emerging designers, collectives and designer collaborations from around the world, Downtown Editions demonstrates the depth and diversity of the regional design scene alongside the savoir-faire of international makers and studios.

At its inaugural showcase, visitors were able to connect with the creative community to buy contemporary design pieces and commission bespoke design.

Aljoud Lootah

Be it furniture or product design, the multidisciplinary Emirati designer Aljoud Lootah is known for her deft hand at creating bespoke design pieces that beautifully marry a contemporary take on regional culture with the specific requirements of her clients. She interprets traditional silhouettes through modern concepts and manufacturing, bringing together the old and new in her own inimitable style. Last year, she presented her new collection of seating inspired by her childhood memories of stacking pillows to create make-shift stools.

Andreea Braescu

For her stunning light installations, Romania-based porcelain artist Andreea Braescu finds inspiration in nature. She painstakingly honours the apparent randomness found in nature, elevating it to an art form through hand-crafting each element of her sculptural lighting installations. The designer’s latest collection that was inspired by the Ginkgo flower required her to craft each petal individually. When fired, each petal responds to heat differently, lending a distinct character to each flower. Demonstration atelier culture of the highest order, Andreea can create a bespoke design in fine porcelain to meet the specific needs of the client.

The Line Concept

The Line Concept is a furniture design studio with its own production facilities based in Dubai. With a deep understanding of how a single drawn line can alter the performance and experience of furniture, the studio hand-crafts each piece to the highest standards; utilising fine materials such as solid woods, genuine marble, and antiqued metals to crate collections that are tasteful and contemporary. Be it for a commercial project or a private client, having an in-house team allows The Line Concept to produce bespoke design pieces that are as unique as the project.

Illulian

Founded in 1959, Illulian is an exclusive point of reference in the field of modern and antique rugs, with collections that in addition to being exclusive furnishing proposals, represent real works of art capable of preserving their charm over time. From developing the preliminary rug concepts and creating photorealistic renderings that demonstrate the bespoke design to the client, to overseeing its production, the Illulian Design Studio offers absolute personalization of carpets for the discerning client.
