At the intersection of tradition and innovation, the global lighting industry is making rapid strides in delivering solutions that are pushing boundaries and elevating centuries old crafts associated with exceptional lighting design.

Responding to the region’s growing demand for high-quality, contemporary lighting solutions, Downtown Design will showcase a selection of the finest international lighting studios, highlighting the diverse perspectives that are informing illumination design around the world.

Nature remains a strong inspiration for the lighting world, informing both design and materiality. St. Louis' presentation, for example, will include the Folia collection. Designed by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, the range is an homage to the Moselle forest in France in which St. Louis is based.

Serip, who since 1961 have reflected landscapes in dramatic compositions continue to interpret the apparent randomness of nature through brass and crystal. The Portuguese brand's presentation will explore the harmony of strength and fragility, colour and from.

Known for seamlessly combining the remarkable craftsmanship of Bohemian glass artisans with a distinctly contemporary aesthetic, Brokis pays homage to the beauty and complexity of glass work. Exploring scale and modularity with a minimalist design code to depict nature’s elements - birds, stars and plants – the Czech lighting brand will bring works by designers by Lucie Koldova, Boris Klimek and Fumie Shibata to the Middle East. Part of the ‘Interior from Spain’ pavilion, Lladró and MYO will demonstrate their expertise in porcelain and metal works through their nature inspired pieces.

Preciosa are known for integrating responsive technology in their work to create awe-inspiring lighting installations. They will present their latest immersive project, the Carousel of Light for the first time in the region. With a canopy of glowing crystal orbs, the installation mirrors the joys of the fairground as the globes instinctively respond to human interaction with a mesmerizing light show.

Fascinated with spirituality and mythology, Klove will present a new collection inspired by the global rituals of self-adornment. Large-scale lighting pieces derived from delicate individual components will spotlight the precision of Indian glassblowing communities, with whom the atelier has collaborated for over 15 years.

With an eye for emerging design talent and their cutting-edge crystal components, Swarovski Lighting have created one-of-a-kind pieces for some of the most prestigious residences. They will showcase their latest collections developed in collaboration with leading international designers.

With royalty and exceptional hotels as clients, Italian makers Light4 are known for marrying classical styles with regional references and high production values. Featuring crystal wall panels and mirrors, their presentation at Downtown Design 2019 will showcase the studio’s latest advances in lighting tech. Fellow Italians, the Venice based Studio Italia Design will reference the 60s through a contemporary lens.

Dubai-based Tareen Interiors will bring the latest concepts by studios  Buster+Punch and MM Lampardi who are known for the refined Leaf collection of luminaires.

Far from just function or beauty, to meet the requirements of today's design-savvy clients, lighting design needs to be well-considered and impactful, often becoming the focal point of a design scheme. Downtown Design’s selection of lighting brands will offer visitors a diverse selection to choose from.
