It was in Dubai, the emerging vibrant location for excellence and creativity, at the foot of Burj Khalifa, that the second edition of Downtown Design took place, marking it as the yearly appointment dedicated to interior design in the Emirates.

Downtown Design, with its clever mix of good design and culture, brought to Dubai some of the best interior design names, among which Blumohito, was invited to create a stunning installation at the entrance of the exhibition.

Green Dunes

The stunning entrance installation by Blumohito, had to be a work of art rather than design, and it was handcrafted in Italy as an original art project by Aldo Cibic. Aldo had also been invited to give a speech focused on the “Italian Design community” and his personal experience in the industry.

This art project by Aldo Cibic was a tribute to Dubai and a celebration of life. The starting point of this artistic path was the research that Mr. Cibic conducted into “micro-landscaping”.  This time focused on some core themes of the Gulf culture: this explains why the sinuous line that separates desert from life, here emphasizes the contrast of the lush vegetation, suddenly appearing like an oasis in the desert. In fact, life makes its way even in harsh conditions. The lonesome tree is telling us this, and his benign presence gives shade, relief and protection. Unlike anywhere else, here in the Gulf life is impelled by the presence of men, and even a desert dune can be turned into a green hill.

The mirror frame blurs the boundary line between the installation and the viewer, as if a mirage had occured. Likewise, the border between art and design – or between object and experience, if you like – is dazzled. Green Dunes is a cm 480x260h wall item made by Blumohito in a 5-pieces limited edition, using natural sand and SAG (Smart Acoustic Green) technology moss wall. Following the acclaim received during Downtown Design exhibition, it has been selected to be shown at La Galerie Nationale, in Dubai.
