Downtown Design’s selection of makers and manufacturers underscores the focus on quality and innovation that is guiding the surface design industry. 

Lending colour, shape and texture, the designer’s choice of materials not only conveys the mood, it brings character and personality to any space.  With a growing focus on contemporary living and in response to the evolving tastes of design investors, quality is at the forefront of any decision-making that involves material selection. 

Natural or man-made, artisanal or developed by cutting-edge machines; Downtown Design’s exhibitors represent the diverse world of surface materials.

Cosentino are known for their innovative surfaces for the architecture and design industry. From large-scale slabs to the know-how for delivering highly customized solutions, the Spain-based manufacturer is constantly pushing the envelope. At Downtown Design 2019, they will present their latest development: the thin-edged, Dekton Slim.

Known for their hand-picked selection of man-made and natural stones, Grani Marmo supply exotic stones to the region’s prime hospitality and residential projects. They will present KalingaStone, a collection of engineered stones that offer seamless application and consistency.  They will be joined by Ranieri Lava Stone, specialists in creating made-to-measure solutions featuring 100% recyclable natural volcanic stone.

Refined materials experts, Porcelanosa trace their origins to the humble porcelain tiles. Their latest offering, the Krion, is an advanced solid surface that can be crafted into planes and sections impossible to achieve with other materials.

Driving innovation in the vinyl, linoleum and rubber surfaces sector, Tarkett are known for design-led, high-performance solutions. Inspired by the Bahuahus movement, their presentation at the fair will feature their Lexmark carpets collection.

Representing an international portfolio of the finest manufacturers, artisans and makers, Dubai-based Kens & Company supply bespoke materials to the region’s leading architects and designers. At this year’s fair, they will present DSA Glass’ latest innovations in decorative glass and Wonderwall Studio who are known for their complex panelling systems using salvaged wood that is carved into intricate patterns.

The selection of artisanal finishes at Downtown Design 2019 represents centuries-old traditions that are being recontextualised for the current market. Portugal based makers, New Terracotta are known for their beautiful glazed clay pieces produced manually by local craftsmen; they will present their latest collection of Azulejos titles to the Middle East. They will be joined by experts in mosaic: Fantini Mosaici Marmi and the Trend Group, one of the world’s leading full-body glass mosaic, gold mosaic and Venetian enamel producers.

Integrating art with design, Dubai-based WallArt Designs use HP’s Latex Technology inks to create non-toxic and odourless bespoke wallpapers. Their eco-friendly and non-flammable products are ideal for sensitive environments such as healthcare, education and hospitality industries.
