lwan Maktabi Lab, the innovative platform by Iwan Maktabi - leading carpet gallery engaged in the business since 1926 – is where design is driven by culture, creativity, craft and testing. lwan Maktabi set up on a mission to develop the visual language in carpets in the Middle East.
A world with more sustainability, inventiveness and connectivity is at the drive behind all activities at lwan Maktabi Lab where technology is merged with crafts, innovative materials and traditional weaving techniques. The Lab’s latest project aims to present regional cultural codes through new visual language applied into woven and knotted pieces and other objects. With the help of curator and artistic director Samer Yamani, lwan Maktabi identified talents from various Gulf countries, and asked them to create a capsule collection titled ‘Terminal G’ which will be unveiled at Downtown Design 2022.
