Tanween by Tashkeel presents limited edition furniture and lighting pieces inspired by, designed and manufactured in the UAE that integrate traditional crafts and contemporary design practice, often using innovative applications of the materials integral to UAE identity.

The Tanween Collection features product outcomes of the Tanween design programme, an annual training initiative by Tashkeel for UAE-based emerging designers, which has invested in 26 designers and 35 limited edition pieces since its launch in 2013.

At the Downtown Design 2020 Digital Fair, Tanween by Tashkeel premiered three new pieces by UAE-based designers Nada Abu Shaqra, Lina Ghalib and Neda Salmanpur.

Nada Abu Shaqra’s high back Hisn chair is inspired by the UAE vernacular architecture integrating locally sourced terracotta with modern manufacturing techniques. Inspired by heritage and sustainability, Lina Ghalib’s Yereed bench-seat features a new and innovative application of arish offering new design possibilities for this local material. While Neda Salmanpour’s ceiling light Qaws draws upon muqarnas and calligraphy to create a non-traditional form using digital fabrication.
