The success of Downtown Design 2016 uncovers the growing demand for original high-quality design solutions in the Middle East.
Reflecting the increasing importance of Dubai as a regional hub for Design, Downtown Design has seen a marked increase in demand for exhibition space from international brands, and a burgeoning interest from the regional design community. The 2016 edition saw a 20% rise in the number of visitors, with over 12,500 of the region’s leading buyers attending to engage and network with best in class brands across categories, from all corners of the globe.
The diversification of the regional market has boosted an appetite for high quality products that demonstrate craftsmanship, durability and accessibility, subverting the idea that the region’s appetite is for superlative luxury only. The fourth edition saw 104 brands from 28 countries present their latest, most innovative pieces, from handmade lighting installations to smart-tech office furniture.
Downtown Design visitors, including 70% of the top international Architecture and Interior Design Firms, and 100% of top regional firms, engaged with equal interest in established and emerging brands, that ranged from industry pioneers like Moroso and Kettal, to artisans Addis Ababa and Beirut.
Long standing exhibitors and new exhibitors alike gave extremely feedback regarding the quality of the visitors that attended, and in a survey of all Downtown Design brands in 2016, 97% stated they would recommend Downtown Design to other exhibitors, while 99% agreed stated that they would be happy to return to exhibit at the fair.
